Lighting System

Lighting system

Lighting is the deliberate use of light to achieve a practical or aesthetic effect. Lighting includes the use of both artificial light sources like lamps and light fixtures, as well as natural illumination by capturing daylight.

Good Lighting

Poor Lighting

Can help people to see what is around them, use landmarks to navigate, identify signs and spaces, see others’ faces and participate in activities.

Can increase anxiety and may lead to trip and fall accidents if people cannot make sense of what is ahead of them

Lighting energy management has to provide the optimal lighting level for the tasks being performed using the most efficient light source suitable for the application, and providing light only when and where it is needed. This can be achieved by using lighting control strategies and lighting control system. The main purpose of these systems is to reduce energy consumption while providing a productive visual environment

Classification Of Lighting

Lighting can be classified into two. It is whether from natural light or artificial light.

Natural Light

Natural light is light that come from a natural source that is sunlight. Yes, light from the sun is the natural light that been provided in our life. Sunlight is ideal for our healthy growth, not just human being but also the photosynthesis in plant. Sunlight contains the colors of  the spectrum.

Artificial Light

Artificial light can be used as a replacement or supplement of natural light. Artificial light is the light that use electric power, electric installation and fitting in provide light. Although many artificial light do not radiate a full spectrum of colors, which could inhibit plant growth, full spectrum bulbs that mimic natural sunlight are available.

There are many kinds of bulb can be categorized such as below.

Ambient Lighting

It is the combination of light reflections from various surfaces to produce a uniform illumination. The purpose of overall, or ambient, lighting is to light up an entire room so that people are able to easily and safely move throughout the space. Light ‘bounces’ off the walls to lighten as much space as possible.

Task Lighting

Task lighting sheds light on the tasks that a person carries out in a given space such as reading, sewing, computer work, where a brighter light is required in a smaller focal point of the room.
For more congenial lighting, it is often best to avoid harsh lights or lighting that casts troublesome shades. It is also quite practical to install a single switch for focal lighting, independent from the room’s overall lighting switch.

Accent Lighting

Accent lighting is used mainly to focus on a specific point of interest or to achieve a desired effect. This type of lighting gives the impression of a larger space; it is more frequently used to highlight an architectural feature, a plant, a sculpture or a collection of objects.
As a general rule of thumb, effective ambient lighting requires the installation of three times more light on the focal point than existing light on the rest of the space.
